In today’s world, it’s easy to ask how a life of peace is achieved, or how can I find peace and joy? Just a question is asked every day around the world and has been since the beginning of time. This universal question is one we all at one time or another have asked. It can seem at times that peace and joy is wishful that’s unable to be obtained, but is it? Despite our circumstances, whether it’s good or bad, happy or sorrowful, reassuring peace can fill us and we can be rejuvenated with sweet feelings of true joy as we rely on Jesus Christ and apply His teachings to our lives.

So is peace and joy something we can truly have in this life? In the scriptures Jesus, referring to us, said “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” (John10:10) Jesus has provided a way for us to live. This is His gospel or in other words teachings and commandments. As we strive to live His Gospel, He has promised that despite our circumstances, good or bad, we can live life more abundantly and we “… shall always rejoice, and be filled with the love of God…” (Mosiah4:12) This doesn’t mean life will be easy. Rather we will be able to find peace in our struggles and will find joy in Him and His promises.

Jesus has promised as we follow Him that He can give us peace and joy in our trials. Turning those into opportunities to grow and increase in love. He will “… consecrate thine afflictions for thy gain…” (2Nephi2:2). Living His Gospel makes it possible for us to receive these blessings of peace and joy.

So how do we get it?

Peace and joy are things we can obtain through Jesus Christ. This requires that we strive to live His teachings. In short, He has asked that we build faith in Him. Through things like studying His scriptures, praying, and going to church, we can. Repenting and trying to do better daily when we fall short. Being baptized and receiving The Holy Ghost. Lastly, we also learn that following Jesus is not a one-time event, but is a way of life. “Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men… and endure to the end…”(2Nephi31:20) When we turn to Jesus in the turmoil and successes of life He can help us receive true peace. We can also be filled with sweet joy as we rely on Him and live His Gospel throughout our lives.

There is a way to find peace, and there is a way to receive true joy; it’s through Christ. He wants us to live life more abundantly despite the difficulty of it, and can turn our afflictions into our gain. He makes this possible as we turn to Him and strive to live His Gospel. It takes work, it isn’t a one-time fix, but rather a way of life, a life of love and faith centered on Jesus and His teachings and commandments. Despite our circumstances, whether it’s good or bad, happy or sorrowful, reassuring peace can fill us. We can be rejuvenated with sweet feelings of true joy as we rely on Jesus Christ and apply His teachings.
